The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Another quick recap. This book was a suggestion from Kathy S.
"The book is very disturbing in many ways and raises so many questions. Immediately you feel sympathy for the people of District 12 (especially Katniss) and have a feeling of distaste for the the Capital and how they run things. It has become a very sectioned off world where the privileged are overpowering and rule as though they are the only ones that know order and decency. The world has reverted back to almost a medieval time for the Districts. Of course there is still technology which only the citizens of the Capital have access to. The idea of "the Hunger Games" is, lack of a better word, disgusting. Technology seems to have advanced quite a bit even though you only get glimpses of it. The Capital's obsession with beauty shows that quite a few medical advances in surgery and medicine have been made. They also show that they have advanced in media and communication. All of which is kept from the Districts. The most disturbing advancement are the scientific experiments that have brought about muttations / altered species."
